So I moved to my new house and now I’m in a dilemma. Before owning a house, living in an apartment was fairly easy to be connectable in every room. Plug a wireless router next to the modem and boom, you’re in business. Now my situation is a bit different. I still connect to the internet with a DSL modem which is connected to a DD-WRT wireless router. The problem with this new house is that well, first of all, it’s a 2 floor house. This is all nice and dandy but here is the catch, the office is located on the 2nd floor which will have the modem and wireless router. I watch bunch of movies from my xbox which runs XBMC which will be located on the first floor. I watch movies that are located on my fileserver which is located in the office. The bandwidth coming from upstairs will probably take a major hit which will obviously affect everyone else trying to use the inter web. I would love to find a solution to not have to think about moving files to the xbox to watch a movie. Here are some options that I taught about.

Upgrading to the N specs but I’m not sure if that will help at all.

I have another DD-WRT wireless router somewhere that I could use to extend the signal a bit but I’m not sure if that will help or hinder the connectivity of the network.

I’m not a fan of using cable TV but the house is wired for it. It has run in every room and the lines all points to outside. They are single line that aren’t split anywhere.

Not sure about other options, anyone care to comment about their experience?!

So here I am again doing a first week of exercise, again. Some say that if you train hard for a week, you are more likely to stop after that week. I have been on and off exercising for the past couple of years. I usually like to train real hard. It does make me feel better. It seems that work as always gotten into my exercise schedule. Being a theatre designer can take a toll on your schedule. The long hours inside a dark theatre isn’t the best place to be if you want to exercise more. I did start to cross train and it definitely helped my running. I started biking in town which was really nice. I like to discover parts of the town when I run or bike. I started biking on 5th Street here in Cville which took me up to Terrell Forest Ln. It was really hot so I turned around and came back. It took me more then an hour to do only 14.55 miles. It’s a beginning, again. Yeah me!

So my next week challenge will be to gradually stop the night caps.

Sorry if you are passing by to check out my more geeky stuff.

I need to write this to put this out there.

It’s the time of the year again. I am getting back into exercising. Running to be exact. I will also do some bicycling with Rose. Maybe even do some yoga to relax some of those muscles. I think I just need to move more and eat better. I am currently reading the book by Michael Pollan “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto”. It’s something that I always care about which goes with my Zen mentality. Be one with the universe kinda thing. The books talks about food and how we consume food. I was never an avid eater of process food but did had too many pizza for far too long. It’s part of the job sometime and I wish it wasn’t. I was raise eating more of the wholesome food but not the omnivore way. We were more of the carnivores then anything else. Lot’s will change in the upcoming weeks. Exciting times.

On a different note, I wish there was a way to integrate my Garmin Forerunner with this blog. I would love an easy way to put my stats online quickly and easily. I’ll have to figure this out soon as I would like to post more update on my upcoming challenge. Run. Eat healthy. Eat less.

My stats for today

Distance 2.31 mi
Elapsed Time 31:14
Avg Pace 13:29/mi
Avg Speed 4.4 mph
Max Speed 7.3 mph
Calories 266 cal

It’s a beginning.

By trade I am a theatre designer who is currently teaching and my hobby is working on computer on various projects unofficially. I have been mixing those two for quite some time and I can actually see the two merging at some point in time. I am fond of lighting design and I think more and more we see progress towards new technology. The days of just having a vibrant filament are almost over, now is the time for the 0 and 1. I have been debating the use of the blog and I wanted to open up to the world. Can the two mix with some sort of success?

I always gather as much as if there is good content then there should be a crowd. I have read some of the theatre blogs out there. They are mostly geared towards reviews and bringing nothing but critic to the table. I am personally not a fan of those type of blogs. I also spent some time reading dance blogs which to me are more interesting because they bring out interesting questions. So to re-cap, theatre nay, dance yay.

I have been a slackware user for more then 10 years now. I haven’t done much for the community but feel the need to participate in some ways now. I wonder if people are interested in having a gemini tell his story.

Can you mix dance/theatre design and a personnal hobby in a blog? I haven’t seen much of them around. You could ask the same question for any type of other art mixed with technology? What would the answer be? I actually don’t know of any blog that post something regularly about design. I know all about the reviews so no need to remind me. If you do have a blog about theatre design, please let me know, I would love to read yours.

I would like to think that it is possible. Theatre design is evolving into something that is very interesting and well, we all know about technology. For example, Linux is, to me at least, starting to get some attention from various people and maybe the more we talk about it the better open source software can position itself to lead the way. It’s a dream but, eh, why not?

Finally!!!

The Internet Message Access Protocol is an application layer Internet protocol operating on port 143 that allows a local client to access e-mail on a remote server. The biggest advantage of IMAP is that you can check your email on your iPhone and when you go home after work, you will see the same message on your desktop but with the exception that they will be already read. Basically, you don’t have to read the message twice. Ain’t that nice? Productive! There has been some work around on the net for a long time but, now, it’s available and it’s free.
