Unique and Powerful Voice

DK ask “Despite the amazing numbers of artists graduating from college, is it fair to think that we’ll have more than ten artists in each genre with a unique and powerful voice?

I am not aware of ten unique and powerful voices but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. It also depends on what you mean by powerful and unique. I do know some interesting young and upcoming voices, but again, not ten artists in the particular branch of art in which I’m interested. The reasoning is simple. The upcoming voices are my peers and I have a better chance to be hired by one of them instead of the already established dance company. I feel ashamed to not be able to name ten unique and powerful upcoming choreographers or directors. Going back to the question, there are a lot of already established dance and theatre companies. This means that there is a scene and there are people working. In other words, yes, there are more then ten artists. Hopefully there are more then ten people with unique and powerful voices. I do have to say that I am not too clear in what unique means anymore. If you search on google for “dance company”, you will get 1,770,000 hits. So from this, we can assume that there is plenty of voices. While being unique and powerful, are those voices heard?
